August, 1980 Established the Department of Applied Foreign Languages with a
Japanese major as a five-year program with one class limited to
male students.
August, 1981 Increased the program by one class for a total of two classes limited
to male students.
August, 1986 Established one male class and one female class.
August, 1995 Established one Japanese class and one English class.
August, 2000 Established the Department of Applied Foreign Languages as a two-
year program with one class of twenty-five students each in both
English and Japanese majors.
August, 2001 Increased class size for both the English and Japanese majors.
August, 2003 Established the Department of Applied Foreign Languages as a
four-year program with twenty-five students in each major as one
class.
August, 2004 Changed the name of the Department of Applied Foreign Languages
(two-year program) to the Department of Japanese Studies (two-
year program).
August, 2004 Added one Japanese and one English class in the four-year
program.
August, 2005 Changed the name of the Department of Applied Foreign Languages
to the Department of Japanese Studies (four-year program).
August, 2007 Changed the name of the Department of Applied Foreign Languages
(five-year program) to the Department of Japanese Studies.
August, 2009 Established the graduate program of Japanese Market and Business
Strategies.
August, 2010 Accepted student admission in the graduate program of Japanese
Market and Business Strategies.
