Extra-curricular activities

 Visiting companies

The department hosts various field trips to companies and business facilities such as Asahi Glass Corporation, National Nature and Science Museum.  The department also supports the students’ job search.

 Chatting Café

The students can practice speaking Japanese during the lunch hours by having lunch with the Japanese instructors in a relaxed atmosphere.

 Cultural festival

The department offers some Japanese cultural events such as tea ceremony, drum performance, traditional dancing, origami, and flower arrangement at the college festival every December.  The students are able to further understand Japanese culture through such hands-on experiences.  In addition to this festival, we also provide some workshops such as Japanese manner, manner at Japanese traditional meals, and Japanese movie appreciation.

 Drama contest

In the five-year program, the students participate in English and Japanese drama contests every year.  They can train their bilingual proficiency skills by producing their own screenplay and practicing their acting skills.  Moreover, they can improve their problem-solving skills through developing senses of camaraderie and solidarity.

 Cinema contest
Every year, students in the two-and four-year programs submit their original movie based on the provided theme to the department of applied Japanese, using a digital camera.  This contest provides the opportunity for the students to capture the theme profoundly and exhibit their creativity by utilizing Japanese language skills.
