Education

 Goals

Our department consists of three programs including five-year, two-year, and four-year.  The Five-year program belongs to a specialty section, while two- and four-year programs belong to the college section.

1. Five-year program

Based upon the policies that our department was established, this program offers an education of Japanese, English, and business curriculum and aims to raise excellent businesspeople.  The students learn special courses, theories, and training courses besides the basic curriculum which Taiwan’s ministry of education decided.  Thus, the total number of credits would be 140 credits, and the total number of class hours is 176 hours.  Within the total number of the credits, Japanese language credits comprise 84 credits, while the class hours equal 104 hours.  As for the English credits, they equal 50 credits, while the class hours would be 62 hours.  Business credits would be 24 credits, and the class hours would be 28 hours.  In addition to these courses, another 32 special courses are available.

2. Two-and four-year programs

The educational goals for these programs are to raise excellent businesspeople with high Japanese proficiency skills and to cultivate profession ethics while learning Japanese and business.  The students who are enrolled in these programs not only learn Japanese linguistic skills such as speaking, listening, reading, and writing, but also practice to improve translation skills and learn business, Japanese culture, Japanese pedagogy, English, and computer skill class.  Thus, these programs well consider the students’ needs so that they can gain knowledge of their specialty fields using their linguistic skills.  The minimum credits required for graduation from the two-year program is 74, while 142 credits are needed for the four-year program.  Please refer to the curriculum plan for the details.

 Characteristics
  1. Compatible with language and business skills

The goals for the five-, two-, and four-year programs are to educate the students who will excel in Japanese, English, and business.  The students in the five-year program are encouraged to participate in proficiency tests, speech contests, and Japanese drama, thus, they have various opportunities to exercise their Japanese proficiency.  The advanced-level Japanese classes and various business classes are available for the students in the two-and four-year programs.  The students in these programs learn knowledge in their specialty fields by using Japanese so that they can actively participate in the society.

2. Small classes

Our department offers small classes of 25 students.  Thus, the instructors provide the lessons which meet the students’ needs.  The students learn the materials thoroughly from the instructors.  Such a small class instruction improves the students’ academic performance.

3. Excellent instructors

Our department has 20 full-time instructors (16 Taiwanese instructors, 4 Japanese instructors) who have their own specialty and work hard in teaching and conducting research (please refer to the introduction of the instructors for the details).  These instructors are the most important human resources in our department because they have passion and willingness to offer enriched education through student guidance.

In the classes, the Japanese instructors teach Japanese conversation classes.  The students not only can improve their communicative competence through the interaction with the native speakers, but also broaden up their worldviews by understanding a different culture.  The department created an ideal learning environment for the students to educate them to actively participate in the international society through cooperation with Taiwanese and Japanese instructors who are proficient in English and Japanese.
